Magnet schools offer enhanced curricula addressing each school’s discipline of focus. Each school has additional staff to provide expertise in these chosen disciplines. Students experience a wealth of extracurricular activities which enrich the educational program.

While some students are zoned for these schools, most students are enrolled in the magnet program by choice. Students make application the previous school year to attend magnet schools. A random selection of magnet applicants is done when more students apply than spaces are available.

The Jackson-Madison County School District will operate ten magnet schools for the 2006-2007 school year:

  • Liberty Technology Magnet High School (grades 9 through 12)
    Liberty Technology Magnet High School will provide students with a strong academic curriculum, along with the opportunity to acquire advanced technical skills.
  • Madison Academic Magnet High School (grades 9 through 12)
    Madison Academic Magnet High School will provide magnet students access to a rigorous post-secondary preparatory program in a nurturing and supportive environment. The goal is to foster an environment of academic excellence serving highly motivated and academically talented students representing a broad scope of all socioeconomic levels.
