Magnet schools offer enhanced curricula addressing each school’s discipline of focus. Each school has additional staff to provide expertise in these chosen disciplines. Students experience a wealth of extracurricular activities which enrich the educational program.

While some students are zoned for these schools, most students are enrolled in the magnet program by choice. Students make application the previous school year to attend magnet schools. A random selection of magnet applicants is done when more students apply than spaces are available.

The Jackson-Madison County School District will operate ten magnet schools for the 2006-2007 school year:

Elementary Schools

• Alexander Magnet Elementary School (Pre-K through grade 4):
  A MicroSociety
• Arlington International Leadership School (Pre-K through grade 4): Core Knowledge
• Lane Technology Magnet Pre-K through grade 4
  Lane Technology Magnet’s enhanced technology component will guarantee a path to the higher grade technology programs in the East Cluster.
• Lincoln Elementary School Magnet for Mathematics and Science Pre-K through grade 4.
  Lincoln Elementary Magnet offers hands-on experiences through the use of networked computers in every classroom, math and science labs, a wealth of manipulatives and outdoor classroom.
• North Parkway Magnet Elementary School Pre-K through grade 4:
  A Multiple Intelligence/Talent Development School:
• Parkview Montessori Magnet School -  Pre-K through grade 6
  Parkview Montessori Magnet is staffed with Montessori-trained teachers and equipped with specialized Montessori equipment. Multi-level classrooms offer hands-on learning approach. Parkview Montessori is child-centered, nurturing, respectful and a peaceful environment.

Middle Schools

• Rose Hill Middle School Magnet for the Arts and Humanities (grades 7-8).
  Rose Hill Middle School’s integrated curriculum connects subjects with each other for better understanding and more rapid learning. An emphasis on the Arts and Humanities adds rich experiences to each subject.

Intermediate School

• Jackson Careers And Technology Magnet Intermediate School grades 5 through 6):

High Schools

• Liberty Technology Magnet High School (grades 9 through 12)
  Liberty Technology Magnet High School will provide students with a strong academic curriculum, along with the opportunity to acquire advanced technical skills.
• Madison Academic Magnet High School (grades 9 through 12)
  Madison Academic Magnet High School will provide magnet students access to a rigorous post-secondary preparatory program in a nurturing and supportive environment. The goal is to foster an environment of academic excellence serving highly motivated and academically talented students representing a broad scope of all socioeconomic levels.
