Two Liberty students won 1,500 each
in an essay contest sponsored by the TN
Securities Division. The essays answered the question: What if I was
given 5000 dollars to invest as I see fit?
Students were required to describe their
research process and explain their investment choice.
Our winners were: Nick Phifer and Megan Holt.
If you know these students or their
families you may want to pat them on the back!
Microsociety conference
in Tucson
The opportunity to join with other
schools to address problems we all seemed
to share was great. We have returned with a good number of practical
ideas for our children. A theme that
seemed to run through the entire conference
was that we must insure a complete well rounded education that
considers tested academics, skills needed
for learning and work in the future, and
social development, while facing the challenges of NCLB.
Alexander school student Natalie
Pflasterer (4th grade) was recognized for
outstanding student venture for the year. Only two students
nationally were recognized There are over
250 Microsociety schools nationally and a
handfull out of the U.S. We are really proud of her work. She also
introduced Monday's keynote speaker, and charmed the
house.
Hether Pflaster and Shirley Roberts,
our coordinators received the the award
for coordinators of the year for the Microsociety organization. This
award is given to only one school
annually. They have done a tremendous job.
Alexander School received it's
certification as a Microsociety school with a
three star ranking. No school has more than three stars. Most
have fewer. This is a real validation of
their work. Alexander School is a common name now around
Microsociety circles.
Thanks for this opportunity. Working
at Alexander with this staff, and these
children, is a great experience.
