Air Force Junior ROTC

TN-20051 rose above the challenges of a new unit in a high school that’s only been in existence for 3 years.  Being proud of their campus, they initiated a trash clean-up, setting the example for the rest of the school.  They collected over 30 bags of trash.  New cadets instantly became involved with the unit.  They helped set up and organize the classroom, uniform storage area, and cadet building.  Their latest accomplishment is a state-of-the-art computer lab, complete with networked printer and internet accessibility.  This lab is available to all cadets for school-related study activities.  The cadet corps built four color guard teams and a drill team the first month.  In November, they planned, organized, and executed a formal Veteran’s Day program.  This program involved the entire cadet corps Guest speakers bring cool toys like flight helmetsand faculty, and honored several Vietnam, Korea, and WWII vets with a formal retreat and presentation.  Simultaneously, the color guard team went to three separate elementary and middle schools, and participated in their Veteran’s Day programs.  To display community spirit, a color guard posted colors for a local Volunteer Fireman’s banquet, adding the right amount of class and dignity to this event.  When hurricane tragedy struck in Louisiana and Mississippi, TN-20051 cadets stepped up to the challenge and helped collect school supplies for Liberty High School’s adopted school, Pascagoula High School, Mississippi.  When another school organization was collecting canned goods, the Liberty JROTC cadets again stepped up to the challenge, and helped collect over 550 canned goods for a local food pantry.  They planned the first ever Sports Day in Jackson.  This team-building event consisted of several team and individual competition categories, with several local and out-of-town schools participating.  This first-year corps hadn’t had enough challenges!  They planned a formal Military Ball from beginning to end, to include menu, awards, table settings, and uniform, applying what they learned in class.  To help the corps with funding, they organized a parent Booster Club.  They have executed several successful fundraisers.  School spirit keeps them moving forward, which is why they participated in Liberty Fest, a day of fun, food and games for the local community, put on by Liberty High School.  About 1500 people came out to participate.  The Drill Team went to our feeder Middle School, and performed a drill routine.  This was great “PR” for Liberty High School, and made a lasting impression on potential cadets.

In addition to the special situations outlined above, the cadet corps drill team and color guard teams presented colors and performed at every home football game, every home basketball game, and two parades.  These teams consist of both active and reserve corps cadets. They have strived to build community awareness through service, evoking the Air Force Core Values.  The TN-20051 cadet corps faculty find the right niche for each cadet, ensuring they are involved and know what it means to be an effective citizen.

In summary, TN-20051 is a team of involved, engaged men and women, who live by the Air Force Core Values for their school, community, state, and the United States Air Force in an exemplary manner.
