Character Education Core Essentials and Project Wisdom (Words of Wisdom)
Core Essentials and Project Wisdom provide resources to help students develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes to make informed and responsible decisions. Teachers are given core essential lesson plans, value cards and quotes of the week which focus on a "value of the month". Project Wisdom are daily character building thoughts given via the public announcement system that reinforce a value. Core Essentials are Project Wisdom combined help develop a sense of well-being in students at West Middle School.

West Middle School Beliefs
The faculty at West Middle School believe that:

• Everyone is a born achiever.
• Children learn in different learning styles; therefore, various instructional approaches should be presented to support their learning.
• Education is a shared responsibility of all stakeholders.
• School environment is relative to how students get along with each other, and how they relate and interact with adults. According to policy expectations, each student is treated with respect and should have the privilege of learning in a safe, positive environment.
• Expectations directly affect student achievement.
• Extra-curricula activities and exploratory classes enhance children's learning experiences.
• A structured learning environment promotes opportunities for student success.
• Character Education helps students develop skills necessary to make informed and responsible decisions.
• Learning and decision making are responsibilities shared by students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community.
• School environment is conducive to students' feelings of value and worth and provides opportunities for stakeholders to contribute to the progress of its students.
•  The district policy on curriculum prepares students for success and mastery on standardized assessment so there are increased academic gains and adequate yearly progress.
