Family and Consumer Sciences programs empower students to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global, ever-changing society. Students develop skills in decision making, problem solving, managing work and family, communication, technology, leadership, citizenship and workplace readiness.

In addition to supporting and complementing the family's role, Family and Consumer Science programs offer students the opportunity to select and prepare for| related careers.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is the co-curricular vocational student organization which has family as its central focus. Students plan and implement service learning activities through participation of FCCLA.

Business Education Classes

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics I one-third of the jobs projected to grow the fastest this decade are in technology, it is essential that high school graduates are proficient in the use of computers in order to enter the job market and continue on to higher education.

Keyboarding Classes will help students make the best use of their time in front of the computer by improving keyboarding skills while learning to format reports, letters and other commonly used documents

  • Accounting
    Principles of Accounting is designed to provide students with an understanding of the basic elements and concepts of the double-entry accounting. The courses include posting, journalizing, financial reporting, and organizing the business. Automated accounting concepts are integrated into some aspects for the curriculum.
    Computer Productivity Applications examines the use of microcomputers for business and personal use by exploring units of study in word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics and telecommunications.
     
  • Personal Computing
    Microsoft Office 2003 Computer Application covers spreadsheet applications, presentation software and the use of the Internet
     
  • Computer Programming
    Programming teaches a programming language with emphasis on functions, multidimensional arrays, records, files and integrated applications.
     
  • Principles of Business
    Designed for students who plan a career in business and seek to acquire introductory business information. Units include credit, banking, saving and investing, and the role of government in our economy.

Collision repair students learn how to safely repair and paint damaged vehicles using basic body working tools and state-of-the-art equipment. Students can get up to three and one half years of training preparing them for work or advanced training. Trained technicians are in high demand with the average income among the top ten percent at over $76,000 per year.

Automotive Technology

  • Auto repair is one of the most challenging jobs in the auto industry. Vehicles are constantly changing and technicians must continue learning new skills, procedures and techniques in repair.
  • Our goal is to provide students with basic skills and prepare them for the ever-changing world of Automotive Technology.
  • The program is geared to teach students familiarity and use of tools, good eye-hand coordination and pride.
  • Students are taught by ASE certified instructors
  • The auto repair industry is in great demand for skilled technicians. Many learn the trade as on-the-job apprentices; however, post-secondary technical schools are recommended to attain the necessary skills

Student Organization
SkillsUSA is the student organization for trade and industrial programs. Among the many purposes of SkillsUSA are developing leadership skills helpful in becoming a professional.

SkillsUSA has three levels of organization. These are national, state and local. The advisor for the local club is the program instructor. The advisor prepares the students to compete in the local competitive events. Winners go to the state competition and if successful there, they compete nationally.

Other activities of the local club include community service, public relations and social activities.

Trade and Industry

Design, Drafting, Engineering, Architecture
Expected Income:

  • Architects and Engineers - $60,000
  • Designers - $35 per hour
  • Animators- $30 per hour
  • Advertising-$25-$50 per hour
  • Computer Aided Drafter - $15 per hour
  • A production worker should find promotions to leadership and set-up positions very rapidly.
  • Construction workers with the ability to read prints will find promotions into supervision very quickly.

Carpentry (Construction)

A two year program to prepare students for careers in

  • Construction Industry-First Line Supervisor- $26 per hour
  • Carpentry - $19 per hour
  • Laborer - $13 per hour
  • Repairs and Reconditioning- $21per hour
  • Cabinet Making- $18 per hour

Training will insure entry level position in an industry that has an all time demand for workers. Incomes after the entry level are very high - $11 per hour

Welding & Machine Technology

A one, two, or three year program where students can learn:

  • Welding Techniques
  • Machining Operation
  • Manufacturing Processes
  • Construction Process

The program is open to women and men who are creative and have a desire for high level incomes. These high school classes can lead to advanced post secondary vocational training or university directed study. The courses qualify for college credit and for advanced placement.

Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning

A two year program where students will learn skills in the following areas:

  • Handling of Refrigerants
  • Basic Components and Operations

HVAC Technicians are in high demand fn West Tennessee and command very high incomes.

A two to three year program preparing students for industry, and/or providing post secondary training at the technical, vocational or university level.

Emphasis in:

Students can secure up to 12 semester hours of college credit.

DECA- An Association of Marketing Students JCM L
Join a 50+ year-old national club of 185,000 members from all over the world. Learn leadership, meet new friends, and partner with big business people. Competitive events are great fun and a challenge

Explorations of Marketing and Management
Not a mandatory class in Liberty's Marketing Academy but gives a head start and is taken before any Marketing classes. This is only taken in the 9th grade. Each student begins a personal portfolio.

Marketing and Management I. Principles JCM L
This class must be taken before any of the other classes listed below. We learn all the Marketing concepts and begin to apply them to develop skills in communication, mathematics, teamwork and leadership. This course substituted for Economics required for graduation.

Travel and Tourism JCM L
This class makes marketing applications to the largest industry in the world- the Travel and Tourism Industry

Entrepreneurship L
Begin and operate your own business for your profit. Apply the functions of Marketing for great success.

Virtual Enterprise L
Virtual Enterprise (VE) is a simulated business set up and run by students with guidance of a teacher and partnership of a real business. Students engage in actual business tasks, activities and transactions including trading with other simulated firms around the world.

Marketing and Management II Advanced JCM L
This class examines business professional skills, challenges, responsibilities, and risks in today's workplace.

Market Research and Analysis L
We focus on research conducted to make marketing decisions. Projects are researched, organized and conducted by students.

Technical Marketing and Sports and Entertainment Marketing L
It explores latest technology and its use in the sports and entertainment industry.

Work-Based Learning (Cooperative Education) JCM L
This opportunity allows students to apply skills in marketing to a related job while attending school and earn credit for the job placement. Students must be enrolled in a related marketing class during the cooperative education experience.
